This brings the total number of green flags awarded to Eco Schools in the Strabane District Council area to eight.
The Chairman, Councillor Thomas Kerrigan, paying tribute to the schools explained: “The Eco Schools programme is a very worthwhile learning resource that raises awareness of environmental issues through activities that are linked to curriculum subjects. It encourages children and teenagers to adopt an environmentally friendly attitude on a wide range of topics such as biodiversity, litter, waste, energy, water, transport, healthy living and school grounds. The Green Flag is a prestigious award to receive. It shows that the entire school has made a commitment to improve not only their school environment but also the environment around them. This is a fantastic achievement for these Schools. They should be very proud of themselves. ”
Eco Schools is administered and supported by TIDY Northern Ireland. There are also various delivery partners who assist schools with the accreditation such as Travelwise Northern Ireland, Action Renewables, BBC Breathing Places and Strabane District Council
