The Council’s Vice Chairman Councilor Kieran McGuire who presented the awards commented
“ This “Best Kept” competition is designed to encourage communities and individual businesses to take care of their gardens and improve their neighbourhoods. Council provides street cleansing, grounds maintenance and horticultural displays throughout the district with a limited budget. Council’s efforts can be greatly enhanced by community participation. I am pleased that, through these awards, we can pay tribute to those within the District who play an active role in looking after their surrounding environment and promoting their area as a beautiful place to live and visit.”
Urging more people to get involved in this year’s competition, the Chairman added:
The Council’s Technical Services Department has written to 87 community and voluntary groups in the District informing them of this important competition. We have only received 7 applications to date so I would encourage more groups to submit entries. Application forms can be obtained by contacting the Technical Services Department on 028 71 381316. Council can assist groups with the provision of subsidisedwindow boxes and assist with the design and supply of bedding plants if you are interested in developing floral beds for your community. Please get involved. Your entry could be a winner this year. ”
