Strabane District Council confirmed that they recently received a complaint regarding a fatal dog attack on a family pet and have issued advice on keeping safe around dogs.
The Technical Services Department state that all dogs have the potential to cause harm and that anyone, but especially children, should be wary of dogs and particularly those not known to them. A spokesperson said that owners are responsible for the action of their pets and it is essential that dogs are kept under proper control at all times.
The Council Chairman, Brian McMahon, added: “dogs kept responsibly can play an important part of family life but that they must never be allowed to become a source of annoyance or danger to the community.”
