PROGRAMMES
This programme will provide a sports equipment pool to local clubs, schools, community groups, youth clubs and summer schemes. We aim to increase and improve sports participation through specific equipment and trained personnel who will come from the local community.
Strabane District Council has introduced a Junior Club Scheme, in the past there has been no mechanism to objectively measure the quality of opportunity being offered by clubs catering for young people.
This will ensure that young people who have had no connection with the club, will be confident that they will be provided with a safe environment and a quality sporting experience
The process of working with the Council towards the Junior Clubmark will provide the club with a framework within which it can develop and address isssues which may not have been previously considered. These includes;Child Protection Awareness, Equity Training, Coaching Young Performers and First Aid
Youth Sport Foyle aims to create an environment in which every young person can participate in sport , irrespective of their age, ability race, religion, disability, gender or economic circumstances. This will be achieved by building structures that will remove existing barriers to participation in sport.
Youth Sport activity is taking place at 154 sites including primary schools, post primary schools, community centres and sports clubs.
Approximately 24,815 young people have been given the opportunity to take part in a range of 20 sports, the most popular being basketball (21%), athletics (17%), soccer (16%), gaelic football (12%) and swimming (5%).
