Donemana and its Environs
A small market village, nestling at the foothills of the Sperrin Mountain Range, Donemana affords the opportunity to sample a fuller countryside experience. Barrontop Fun Farm is ideal for those interested in sampling the sights and sounds of farming life while the Silverbrook Mill complex revisits the traditional industries once strongly associated with the locality. The latter facility has been developed in recent times by the local community who have endeavoured also to attract inward investment through various projects including the provision of industrial units.
The Donemana area can also boast a proud sporting tradition with standards of excellence achieved in cricket and Gaelic football. Excellent shooting is to be had on the adjacent moors while angling exists in the river Dennett, and at Lough Ash and Moorlough. For those interested in something a little less energetic there are tales of nobility and romance associated with both Earlsgift castle and Ogilby's castle.
Several miles from Donemana ,standing on the banks of the Glenmornan river, is the village of Artigarvan. The main source of employment here and in the surrounding district is Leckpatrick Dairies Ltd. This was originally founded in 1902 as a Co-operative, developing dramatically over the years and serving the agricultural community with distinction. The village's industrial heritage is to be an important feature of future developments by local community groups.
Nearby, and located adjacent to the Foyle River, are the attractive villages of Ballymagorry, Bready and Magheramason. This area was once served by rail, and a railway station on the Strabane to Londonderry line was an integral feature of Ballymagorry. Firmly established on one of the district's primary arterial routes, the A5, these villages have determined to maintain their own rural characteristics while embracing the district's vision for the future.
