Strabane District Council, along with a number of other Councils across Northern Ireland, formally launches the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme for food businesses on Monday 6th June 2011.
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, which is a partnership initiative with the Food Standards Agency, will give consumers information about food premises where they either buy or eat food. Food premises will be given a rating score ranging from ‘0’ to ‘5’ after a routine food hygiene inspection. A premises given a ‘0’ rating score means ‘Urgent improvements necessary’ whereas a premises with a ‘5’ rating is deemed to be ‘Very good’. Consumers will now be able to see at a glance the food hygiene rating score that a premises has been given. A new hygiene rating score will be given after each food hygiene inspection is carried out.
