Environmental Health is one of the six Departments in the Council. It has responsibility for enforcement of the Council's statutory duties with regard to a wide range of consumer and environmental legislation.
The Department is divided into two sections, each section having a Senior Environmental Health Officer heading up a team of EHO’S supported by Administration staff. Environmental Health Officers deal with the following general areas:-
Under the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, which comes into effect locally on 6th June 2011, food businesses will be given a hygiene rating which reflects the most recent inspection of the premises. To find out more about the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme just click on the link.

The Environmental Health Department produces an annual Business Plan which includes details of the planned workload for each of the Department’s core function areas
In addition the Department also publishes an annual Food Service Plan which looks in detail at the work of the Council's Food Control section for the coming year as well as a review of the previous year's work
The Information Technology Section of the Council is also in this Department.
