STRABANE DISTRICT COUNCIL’S SUMMER PROGRAMME

This year’s summer scheme will take place between the 5th and 30th July in two locations, Derg Valley Leisure Centre (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and Melvin Sports Complex (Mondays and Wednesdays). The programme aims to give children a chance to try out activities they may not normally have the opportunity to do, in a fun atmosphere, making new friends and developing their skills.
Children between the ages of 7 and 16 will be offered a wide range of activities and trips during the programme. These include sports, dance, music and arts and crafts. Quality coaching will be provided in sports such as:
Following coaching, tournaments will be organised for the kids to try out their new abilities. Themed weeks are also planned, including African and American sports, music and crafts. Free swimming passes will also be given to each child for use the pool at Riversdale Leisure Centre during the summer period.
The programme costs £10 per child for the entire month, with a concessionary rate of £25 for families of 3 or more children. Registration forms are available from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure, Strabane District Council Offices, 47 Derry Road, Strabane. Completed forms and fees must be returned to the same department by Friday 24th June.
Weekly trips will be organised on the Thursday and Fridays of each week to venues which will be confirmed closer to the time. Registration for the trips will take place on the 4-7pm on Tuesday 28th June at Melvin Sports Complex for the Strabane area and 4-6pm Wednesday 29th June at Derg Valley Leisure Centre for those taking part from the Castlederg area.
