STRABANE DISTRICT COUNCIL PROVIDES
FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES

 

19th October 2011

Strabane District Council has provided funding support to community and voluntary groups across the district.

The types of grants awarded included Seeding and Administration - grants that will assist groups in their every day running costs such as insurance, telephone, heating, lighting and stationery.  Programme Delivery and Strategy Development grants were also awarded to groups to run a range of programmes which will promote healthier, economically active, environmentally friendly and learning communities. 

Overall a total of 55 grants were awarded in the 2011/2012 financial year to the following groups: -

Cllr Brian McMahon, Chairman of Strabane District Council said: “Strabane District Council recognises the role of community development in improving the quality of life of local people in addressing social and economic needs, supporting physical and community regeneration and promoting community relations and economic development.  Council’s grant aid programme, which opens on an annual basis, aims to build and strengthen community groups’ developmental and capacity building capabilities and to assist them in running a range of projects that will benefit local communities.”

 

 

Strabane District Council supports local

Community Festivals

 19 October 2011

Strabane District Council through the Community Festivals Fund has provided funding support to the value of approximately £22,000 to local festivals across the Council area.

The festivals being supported under this year’s programme include: Craic in the Brack, The ‘Rockin by the River’ Festival, North West Musical Festival, Sion Mills Strawberry Fair, Newtownstewart Orangefest, Diwali Festival, St Patrick’s Day Festival and the Killeter Fair.

Chairman of Strabane District Council, Cllr Brian McMahon said: “Council is very pleased to be in a position to have provided funding support to local festivals albeit within a limited budget.  Council recognises the role community festivals can play in the social and economic regeneration of local areas.  Community festivals are about participation, involvement and the creation of a sense of identity which are important elements in contributing to the social well being of a community”.
