“Your Good Time Shouldn’t Lead to Crime”
7th August 2007
Alcohol related violence and alcohol fuelled crime and disorder are the focus of a new campaign launched by Strabane Community Safety Partnership. The campaign entitled ‘Your Good Time Shouldn’t Lead to Crime’ focuses on the link between alcohol and anti-social behaviour and encourages young people to be “sensible and responsible when it comes to drinking. PSNI recorded statistics for Strabane town highlight that alcohol related crime is an issue which needs addressed, particularly at weekends. 05/06 statistics indicate that out of 487 total offences, 157 incidents can be linked to offences against the person, and 129 incidents being attributed to assaults. Criminal Damage to town centre premises is also an issue with 120 incidents being recorded that year.
The colourful, eye-catching campaign is running over the summer months on billboards throughout the town and will be complimented with beer mat advertising, which will be distributed to pubs and night clubs within the town over the next few weeks.
Chairman of Strabane Community Safety Partnership, Tom McBride, welcomed the launch of the Partnerships new advertising campaign stating “the aim of the campaign is to stress to young people the affects alcohol can have on themselves and their own community, and may lead them to getting involved in anti-social behaviour which they may not otherwise engage in. This campaign is about encouraging young people to have a good time but to know their limits and to act responsibly and not put themselves and their community at risk.”
Strabane Community Safety Partnership includes a range of organisations working in Partnership to address issues of community safety.
