STRABANE AGENCIES UNITE TO ADDRESS
CRINGE DRINKING AND GET HOME SAFE MESSAGE
10 December 2007
‘Do You Regret What Happened Last Night?’ and ‘Get Home Safe’ is the key messages of a major bus advertising campaign launched this week in the Strabane District for the Christmas and New Year period.
A partnership approach has been taken to address the issue of cringe drinking and get home safe. Strabane Community Safety Partnership, Strabane District Policing Partnership, Strabane Local Strategy Partnership and the Western Drugs & Alcohol Co-Ordination Team have come together in an attempt to make party-goers stop and think about what they do during a night on the town.
The Chairs from all Partnerships involved stated “we want people to enjoy themselves safely over the Christmas period. Alcohol affects people in different ways. The majority of people become more vulnerable, therefore we are reminding people to take care on a night out, look after your friends and make plans before you go out to ensure you can get home safely.”
Local research shows that the majority of crime and anti-social behaviour which occurs in our town at the weekend is fuelled by excessive alcohol consumption.
Fifteen Ulsterbuses will display the advert throughout the Strabane District Council area as a visible reminder to party-goers over the Christmas period. This partnership approach aims to reduce alcohol related crime and disorder in the district.
