ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR SCHOOL POSTER COMPETITION
Monday, 19th April 2010
Strabane Community Safety Partnership recently held a competition for Primary and Post-Primary schools throughout the district. The pupils were asked to design a poster illustrating what anti social behaviour means to them and how it affects people’s lives in their community. There were over 400 entries from both the Primary and Post Primary schools.
First place in the Primary School section, winning a Nintendo DSi, was Shonagh Forbes from St Mary’s PS, Strabane. Cora Maguire, from Altishane PS, Donemana and Ann Mc Garvey from St Bridgid’s PS, Cranagh were placed second and third respectively and received gift vouchers for their achievement.
First place in the Post Primary School section, winning a Nintendo Wii, was Niamh Duffy from Holy Cross College, Strabane. Lauren Edwards, from Holy Cross College, Strabane and Rachel Donald, from Strabane Grammar School were placed second and third respectively and received gift vouchers for their achievement.
The winning poster designs have been re-created onto large advertising panels which will be travelling throughout the district over the 12 months on Strabane District Council refuse collection vehicles.
Speaking about the competition Cllr Michaela Boyle, Chair of the Strabane Community Safety Partnership said,
‘It was clearly evident that this competition has encouraged children to look closely, through group discussion, at the many different types of Anti Social Behaviour and how it affects them and their community. The volume of high quality entries portrays the level of input involved in the designing of the posters. Congratulations to both the winners and all who participated, this competition has proved to be very positive and we will look forward to holding the competition again’.
This project is one of a number of initiatives that Strabane Community Safety Partnership is undertaking to tackle the issues of anti social behaviour in your local area.
