Community Safety Audit And Background Information

Two Year Investment Plan to make Strabane a Safer Place to Live

April 2006

Following an extensive consultation period and the subsequent development of a local community safety strategy for Strabane District, Strabane Community Safety Partnership has recently completed action plans for fifteen projects which will take place over the next two years 2006-2008.

Approximately £190,000 has been invested by the Community Safety Unit to implement community safety projects in the Strabane District, which will contribute to making Strabane District a safer place to live and reduce anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime for all local residents.

Some of the projects, which will be run over this period, include:

An “Off the Streets” Funding Programme, which will provide resources to local constituted groups to provide social alternatives for young people at times when anti - social behaviour is most likely to happen.

Advertising Campaigns on the consequences of getting involved in violence on the streets and anti-social behaviour aimed at getting a key prevention message across to young people and the wider community.

Approximately 4,000 Community Safety packs for both young and old, which will contain key community safety advice and equipment such as key fob alarms and property marking kits.

A Mini Locks Scheme - security locks for homes of those aged between 55-65

Programmes, which aim to address Domestic Violence in partnership with Foyle Women's Aid.

Programmes, which aim to address under age drinking and selling of alcohol to children.

Multi agency education programmes with schools,

“Stop It Now” campaign on the prevention of child sexual abuse in conjunction with the NSPCC.

If you are interested in obtaining further information on any of the programmes which are being run by the Community Safety Partnership or if you have any community safety issues affecting your area, please do not hesitate to contact the
