The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 apply to most new buildings and many alterations, extensions and changes of use of existing buildings. They are made principally to secure the health, safety, welfare and convenience of people in and about buildings and also to further the conservation of energy. In Northern Ireland the building regulations and supporting technical booklets are made by the Department of Finance and Personnel
Guidance on how to comply with the regulations can be found in Technical Booklets prepared by the Department of Finance and Personnel. Adherence to the methods and standards detailed in the technical booklets means that the work will be “deemed-to-satisfy” and must be accepted by building control as complying with the relevant regulations.
